Criteria A - Electronic Health Records

Criteria A

This portfolio addresses the issue of whether patients should rely on having their health records stored electronically. This IT problem involved society because ‘Electronic health records concern some of a person's most sensitive data, which therefore deserves the highest degree of protection against all kinds of abuse.’ (euActiv.com, Electronic Health Records)

This situation has a positive side in the way it conveys that technology is developing in important places such as hospitals and clinics. It is also able to increase the speed of work, and saves clinicians from reading illegible handwriting. ‘For doctors, hospital operators, medical personnel and caretakers, the advantage of the electronic health record is the opportunity it provides to structure, automate and streamline their workflow’ (euActiv.com, Electronic Health Records). Records could be easily accessed, read and sent throughout the workplace with accurate and up-to-date information.

A negative side of this situation would be the reliability and accessibility. How reliable can computers be considering that the information is not physically in the clinician’s hands? Doctors and clinicians can never be sure when a power shortage will occur and what information they will lose. Also, because such incidents may happen, it can slow down productivity which could affect clients and also lose business.

An ethical issue involved with this situation is health. ‘EHRs can include information on patient demographics, treatment progress, problems, medications, vital signs, past medical history, immunizations, laboratory data and radiology reports’(euActiv.com, Electronic Health Records). If the information is not recorded accurately or has been exposed to hackers, it would affect the patient severely. It is helping the medical field with its technological improvements, but what needs to be in mind is exactly how much they can be relied on.

Health Issues

http://www.articlestree.com/weight-loss/diet-drugs-are-diet-drugs-dangerous-tx456882.html

Are diet pills safe? should they be used even though there are known consequences?

http://www.articlestree.com/health/smokeless-tobacco-how-you-can-quit-the-addiction-tx456700.html

Because ciggarettes are smokeless, will it affect the amount of consumer concern? are they safe? how much concern should really be taken?

"Most people associate smokeless tobacco with sports stars, and incorrectly believe that it is a safe alternative to smoking cigarettes. Unfortunately for smokeless tobacco users, this can all too often prove dead wrong."

As time has passed, everyone has seen the improvements that have come over the mobile phone technology. There are a lot of advantages to that especially for people all around the world where mobile phones allow the world to connect in all different ways. Not only can the mobile phones provide voice conversations but now they can also provide internet and wireless. All these aspects have helped people communicate anywhere and everywhere easier than it would have been 20 years ago.

In the technology and business side of the world, all this upgrading and improving of mobile phones are considered as success. While on the other hand, scientists have been researching and found out that although frequent mobile phone users showed to have improved focused attention, they also showed more examples of slowed activity.

As new gadgets are produced everyday, it gets more popular with the younger people in adolescence. Teenagers get interested in technology once they see the new things it has to offer. This could be dangerous because it would affect their brains while their still in school and this could lead to bigger diseases or lack of concentration in school. The reason mobile phones are very popular with the young is because it is also considered a part of their leisure time considering you can access the internet, view videos and listen to music on the mobile device nowadays.

Although people enjoy faster speeds and smaller, more convenient sized of mobile phones; it’s not always safe. Scientists have yet more research to do to prove exactly how harmful it is. Damaging of the brain can not only affect teenagers but whoever is a frequent user of mobile phones.

The reason why mobile phones are growing world wide is because they help people connect in a convenient and much easier way. Over the years, mobile phones have become smaller, quicker and provided better quality connections. Since the business is so big, it has gained economies of scale which makes the price lower and affordable for a lot of people. Equipment that helps the products to grow is the towers where the connection is established. These towers have been built in many places and therefore making the service easier to access worldwide.

Just a few years ago, people world wide never would have thought videos on mobile phones could be possible, or the fact that you can insert various things from the computer. Yes, as time goes on, technology develops and becomes more advanced which attracts costumers. Because phone companies have so many customers, they are influenced to make more models, and even more attractive gadgets.

Because there is access to mobile phones, people all over the world have been giving good business for the mobile selling business which encourages them to make more products. In time, eventually the speed will have gone faster and man will be able to watch videos and listen to music in better quality.

This portfolio addresses the issue of how mobile phones not only scare some people but also how they affect their brains if they frequently use it. Why would they think that the use of mobile phones would affect brains? The main concern is that scientists have actually researched and it is found that frequent mobile phone users demonstrated to have slowed brain function. To make it fair, and to be confident, they carried out a study with a larger group. 300 people were included in the study, 100 were frequent mobile phone users, while non-mobile phone users and then third group of 100 were an intermediate user group. Features of brain activity and neuropsychological functions were studied for example; memory, personality attention and results concluded that frequent users were less open-minded.

The IT system involved in this issue is mobile phones. Mobile phones are really convenient for everyday life and they are useful to make lives easier for everyone. The as time goes on and technology improves, the numbers of phone users increase everyday. It also helps people communicate faster and easier. The positive effect is that lives become easier for people as they can now connect with others easier through technology.

The future direction of people in society will be determined by choices made about this issue. Companies could work on the level of radiation given off by the mobile devices which affect the brain cells causing. Maybe another solution could be that they could research into other options of communicating people safely.
